AmeriCorps members nominated different RMS staff for a certificate of appreciation due to their overall support of their program.
Mrs. Burden was nominated by AmeriCorps member Frances Henderson: "Mrs. Burden has been such a pleasure to work with because she is smart, educated, talented, and beautiful. Her intellectual command of the English Language continuously shows improvement and growth in her classroom and I am proud to be a part of it. Her daily classroom procedures are totally awesome to the point that her students actually look forward to attending her classes each day. Her love of “teaching” makes it easier to educate these students and work with them to make their lives better."
Ms. Southerland was nominated by AmeriCorps member Mary Ella Yamashita: "I have enjoyed serving with Ms. Southerland in her morning ELA classes. Her positive attitude and responsiveness to her students make her classroom an encouraging environment, and she excels at explaining the assignments to her students. She is always looking for interesting ways to engage the students. I especially appreciate the way she has included me in the class and used the opportunity to have an Americorps tutor as a supplement to her own teaching. Because she has treated me as a collaborator, she has allowed me the opportunity to truly serve as a tutor/mentor in her classes. Ms. Southerland's class has also been a safe space for me when my family was going through a difficult time this year. Serving in her classroom gave me a place where I felt I could make a difference when the rest of my life seemed out of control."
Ms. Ayres was nominated by AmeriCorps member Mary Ella Yamashita: "Ms. Ayres has kindly signed almost all of my service logs. She is one of the first people I engage with when I enter the building, and usually the last one before I leave. Her calm demeanor and work ethic set a constructive tone for everyone who passes through the RMS front office, and she has been a helpful resource when I have questions."
Ms. Lauckner was nominated by AmeriCorps member Mary Ella Yamashita: "I am so impressed with Ms. Lauckner's teaching skills. She is clear about expectations and manages her classroom in such a way that students have the opportunity to do the work on their own, but she always circles back to make sure that everyone understands the material before moving on. Serving in her classroom has given me the opportunity to learn the importance of being direct and consistent with classroom management."
We love to see the great work these educators are doing! #galePROUD #oneRSD
