Our 7th grade PLTW Medical Detectives have been diving into our neurological processes for the past several weeks. Our culmination was the dissection of a sheep's brain. The students were able to identify and label different parts of the brain in pairs. This, in conjunction with previous lessons about abnormal medical information, will help students identify the causes of problems patients have when they go to the doctor. We have located growths in several patients that have adversely affected them and are able to prescribe possible treatments. Way to go Medical Detectives!

RMS PLTW is pleased to showcase some of our projects. In Automation and Robotics we are developing three devices. The students had a choice to develop an automated pet toy, a spinning button operated stop sign, and a button activated dragster.

In our Medical Detectives classes we plated E. Coli and added antibiotic disks to see how much the Zone of Inhibition was in order to prescribe the correct antibiotic for our patient. Way to go Gales!

PLTW Medical Detectives is gathering bacteria from several locations to see how much bacteria will grow in our petri dishes. Students documented where they gathered, practicing proper technique to streak the plates. Over the next couple of weeks they will see their bacteria grow and try to identify what it is.

Students had the chance to uncover artifacts, make discoveries, and learn what it’s like to be an archaeologist in the field. This interactive experience brought history to life and showed the importance of curiosity, observation, and teamwork.

We are so proud of our students for digging deep into learning—literally! ❤️🖤

At RMS, we believe in Every Student… Every Assignment… Every Day. That’s why we use the ICU Database to help students stay on top of their work and build good habits for learning.

What it is: Teachers log missing assignments into the ICU Database. Parents/guardians are notified by text and email if their student has missing work—and again when the work has been turned in.
Why it matters: Completing work is essential for learning, and we want to partner with families to support student success.
Who: All 6th & 7th grade students.
When: Missing assignments are logged each Monday, beginning August 25th.
How it works: Students are notified of missing work, given time to complete it, and supported during advisory if extra help is needed.

Together, we can help our Gales finish strong each quarter and stay caught up!
